The Geens partnership team is an ideal blend of experience, expertise and enthusiasm.
The partners offer all of Geens clients a personal overview of their financial matters as
well as guidance of a specialist nature - where required.
Originally from Hertfordshire, Steve moved to Eccleshall, Staffordshire and was educated in
Stafford before moving into higher education in Nottingham. He subsequently commenced his
training contract with Prior & Palmer in Nottingham before moving back to Eccleshall and joining
Geen & Co in 1986 where is qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987. He became a partner in 1992
and senior partner in 2008.
In addition to being one of the firm's audit partners and overseeing the personal taxation department,
Steve has managed and developed the firm's ever growing unincorporated business department,
dealing with a diverse portfolio of clients from business start-ups to long established sole traders and
partnerships. His team, as well as dealing with the routine accounts and preparation and related
personal taxation affairs to their clients, assist in the preparation of financial projections, payroll and
with VAT matters.
Karen Lowe
Born and educated in Leek, Karen went on to study a Biology degree at Liverpool University,
graduating in 1994 and there after attaining a graduate training contract with Geens. Karen qualified
as a Chartered Accountant in 1998, became a partner in 2003 and the firm's Audit Compliance Partner
in 2008.
Karen specialises in all matters relating to the firm's varied and extensive corporate client base, from
the relatively small owner managed business to the larger more complex corporate entities. She likes
to be closely involved with her clients in supervising the routine accounts preparation and audit,
corporate taxation matters and advising on share valuations and exit planning. She is the firm's
primary audit partner and her audit team also look after non statutory audits and regulated client
compliance work such as solicitors, pension schemes and clients in the financial services sector. She is
also closely involved in advising landed estates and trusts along with the accounting and tax advice
that servicing such clients require.
Carl France
Born and educated in the Stoke-on-Trent area, Carl was an apprentice and semi-professional footballer
with Port Vale Football Club before turning down a professional career in the sport. He joined Geens
in 1982 before moving to the City of London for a short period gaining valuable experience in a mid-
tier accountancy firm. He returned and rejoined Geens in 1989, becoming a partner in 2006
Carl originally gained significant audit experience on a number of large company audits before taking
over the firm's in house corporate department which deals with many of the owner managed business,
most of whom no longer need audits. In common Geens' philosophy Carl is closely involved with his
clients and likes to be "hands on" with regard to the accounts preparation and providing all round
business and taxation advice and also advising on share valuations and exit planning. Carl has also
developed a specialism for dealing with the preparation of accounts and audit of the firms' Clubs and
associations and Charity clients under the Companies Act, Industrial and Provident Act and Charities
Act legislation.
